Rosette Poof Hairbow & Orange Slice Brooch

So in my quest to give out a few handmade gifts this Christmas, I decided to try my hand at two new things...a poofy, rosette-type hair band for my 12 year old cousin B, and a not-at-all-pink brooch for my good friend L. <--who doesn't like pink??? HER. Crazy chick.

The hair band was made using two different patterns of fabric scraps I had from other projects. One was a two-tone, pink stripe and the other a Vera-style paisley print with lots of green. I was pretty thrilled how it came out, considered it was my first whirl with any thing other than the
twisted rosettes.

I refer to L's brooch as an "orange-slice" style because, well...she's not a frilly, pink, poofy kind of gal so I wanted it to have a unique fun shape,
but without too
much girly-ness for her. I played around with it a bit and finally ended up cutting 3-inch circles, folding them in half, and gluing them down around my felt base. Although it doesn't look it in the picture, the center is a purple button topped off by a turquoise cabochon from my jewelry stash.

B seemed to think her's was "cute" and L informed me her brooch was "so pretty!" so I'll call these two a win!

*While I'm rambling, any of you nifty, smart bloggers out there want to tell me how to rearrange my photos where I want them? I'm not very good at this!*

It's a pom-pom linky party! :)
