photo challenge, part deux

Hey, y'all!

This week for the photo challenge over at Lesley's place, Fabulously Flawed, we were supposed to capture items 6-10...books, something funny, favorite color, inspiring person, nature.

Unfortunately, between lots of doctor's appointments, shots, and a crazy teething baby, I only have two offerings for you today!

This is my "inspiring person"--my grandmother, MaMa, who passed away in June. I think about her all of the time, and especially now having Colston, I wish she were here to talk to. Thanksgiving marked the first major holiday I've ever had without her. Tomorrow, December 1, she would have been 91 years young. I snapped a shot of something another inspiring person sent me--our hostess with da-mostess, Lesley! After MaMa passed, Lesley sweetly made this key ring for me with a picture of my grandmother and me. I carry it with me. I think it's pretty awesome that someone like Lesley, whom I've never met in person or even heard her voice, cared enough to do something so kind.

As for my something funny, well...had to include my baby! No really--it is funny. We decided to try baby-led weaning instead of more traditional purees with the introduction of solids. Carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli--all got a "meh" from Colston.

Green beans? Yum, Momma!

If you haven't joined us in our photo fun, it's not too late! Come on over, y'all!

photo challenge, part 2

Hey y'all!

Remember the photo challenge I mentioned going on with Lesley at Fabulously Flawed? Well I actually remembered to do part 2!

Go me!

I'm still learning the basics of "creative photography" (as opposed to self portraits with my cell phone!)...but I am having fun playing around with Picasa, and editing my photos to make them a little funky!

Today I am sharing with you...

daily photo challenge, part 1

Hey y'all...

Let's be clear: I am no photographer.
I have a simple, point and shoot Nikon, it was a gift.
None of the awesome, fancy, need-a-novel-to-use-it cameras some of you lucky gals have :)

But Lesley at Fabulously Flawed wanted to partake in a 30 Day photo challenge...just not in 30 days. And I am all about the unorthodox ;)

So if you'd like to join in, we're diving in today with "animal". You can get the nitty gritty over at Lesley's place.

I was hoping for a great shot of the leaves swirling around today, but caught my beautiful White Dog in the lens instead.
(yes, his name is in fact, White Dog)

calling my creative, crafty peeps!

Hey, y'all!

I have something to ask of you today. My cousin, Candice, is organizing "Walk to Remember". It will be a local, annual event to remember babies lost through miscarriage, infant death, etc. There are many national events already in place, and you can find details about them at october15th.com.

There currently is not an event in our area (Greenville, SC), and having experienced this loss more than once, Candice is seeking to fill a need in our area. She has started a Facebook page for the walk, and is now looking for generous individuals willing to donate items for a raffle.

All of the money collected is going directly to help organize the walk, and the goal is for the first walk to take place in October 2012 (October 15th is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day).

Would you be willing to donate an item? Items? :) Every little bit helps!

If you are interested, please contact me by using the email (to the right of this post, click the 'about me' for my email) or leave a comment below and I will get you Candice's information!

skyline painting at sips'n'strokes

Hey, y'all!

Remember this post I did about my first trip to Sips'n'Strokes?

My s-i-l was home from TX a couple weeks ago and we went back.

This time, the painting was a city skyline.

Here is the canvas from the start, when we painted the sky and started outlining the buildings.

After we outlined all of the buildings with white, we began to fill them in with each color.

At this point, you have a little creative license to shade (or not) as you wish. Same colors as the original, or your choice.

Here we are with our finished paintings! I love how different each painting turns out, based on the individual's perspective and tastes.

Here's another photo of mine here at home. These were taken on my phone, so they aren't the best, but you get the idea! Some people added windows to their buildings; I simply did not have the patience for that!

Now I'm tempted to go back...even though by the time each class was finished I was soooo tired of it...it can get a little tedious at times. But there are some super cute Christmas paintings on the calendar like this pretty tree or this one with Rudolph. Perhaps I could recreate them myself???
