it's the little things...

Hey, y'all!

How is everyone? I promise, this is still supposed to be my crafty corner of the internet...but lately, with moving, and Colston becoming increasingly mobile, "crafting" seems like a foreign concept!

Anyway, I know I have some fellow shoe lovers around these parts...and I had to share. Hubs took me to Kohl's after dinner last night, and I spotted these beauties. They totally came home with me.
I. Am. Enthralled.

I can't find them on their website, but they are part of the Rock & Republic line. Between a sale and a coupon, they were less than $50!

I promise to post some updates soon; right now though, I doubt you want to see my 6 foot high stack of boxes!

small space move, part IV

 Hey y'all!

My mom sent me a picture of the addition to the house...the siding is up on the outside, so the room is officially done! Well, save for me staining the concrete on the inside.

Just to recap, here's how the "room" started--single carport.

Siding removed, concrete poured inside for floor; outside for parking pad.

Walls and windows added...

And now we have siding! Pretty cool, I think!

I love that I have so many windows facing the street. I have grand plans of finally being able to have our Christmas tree visible to passers-by, something we've never been able to do in our current home. It is L-shaped, and the street-facing windows are over the kitchen sink, and over our bed.

let's have a laugh

Hey y'all! Sorry I've been so MIA...we are knee deep (no really, more like waist deep) in packing for our "small space move" and I just haven't had time to post! So no new pics to share just yet. Soon, I hope...everything is coming together nicely. I hope I can share the process of staining the concrete as well, some of you have mentioned not being familiar with that.

In the meantime, I wanted to share a funny with y'all. If we are 'friends' on Facebook, you probably saw this yesterday. My hubs is a software developer, and my mom thinks he's like...Steve Jobs or something, no kidding. She calls him all the time with crazy computer questions. Some are simple; some are so oddball that James is looking at me like "what. the. heck." Mom was trying to email some pictures to me of the renovations on the house. Apparently, something went wrong.

mom: So I put the card in, and it said no new pictures to download, but I saw the ones I wanted, and I downloaded them.

James: Okay, where to?
mom: I don't know.
James: Okay, well, you have to know where you downloaded them to...
mom: I know, but I can't find them.
James: Okay, well I'll have to come by tomorrow and help you.
mom: Okay, but when I was downloading them, I accidentally clicked one and drug it to my desktop. How do I put it back?
James: ...ummm, put it back *where*?
mom: With the rest of the pictures I downloaded.
James: the pictures that you don't know where you put them?!
mom: Yes.

At that point, I was laughing so hard, I did that laugh where no sound comes out and you clap like a seal...I'm still laughing.

I hope y'all are having a great week, and please hang around! I hope to have lots of cool things to share with you soon!

small space move, part 3

Hey, y'all!

Just dropping by with a quick update on our move! The addition is coming along super-fast! Sheetrock is going up tomorrow.

Here's a quick outside view:

Annnnd, now we have walls framed in! (Up? Whatever.)

I love all the bright, natural light!

Now I'm off to make plans for the hubs birthday...he's turning 30 Saturday!

Small-space move, part deux

{to catch up on our moving news, go here and here}

Hey, y'all!

Things are moving right along, quickly, for our move to my grandmother's house. I wanted to share more of our progress with you today. In keeping with the original homes on the street (originally built in the late 40's, early 50's), my dad decided to close in the carport. My grandmother's home is one of the few remaining that haven't yet done this...'til now!

Here is the carport, with the area marked for the concrete to be poured. The area will be closed in for a room, and then a parking area added.

On Monday, my dad's concrete guy (Daddy used to build houses, among other things), Israel, came to pour the concrete. This picture makes me giggle, it looks like the truck is going to demolish the house!

Here is the parking area. Originally (see picture above), there was going to be a space for just one car. But daddy ended up having bought extra ("just in case"), and it was enough to lengthen the parking pad. The driveway as it were, was quite short. So this will allow James & I to park our cars here, and leave room for two cars in the driveway when we have company over.

I specifically requested the floor of the room being added to be concrete. I knew right away I wanted to use the area for the dog kennels in the winter, and for crafting. I also knew I wanted to stain the concrete; I love the way that looks! So Israel poured concrete for our room, and stamped it with a concrete stamp to make it look like bricks.

Here you can see the poured concrete areas, as well as the siding removed. Next week construction on the walls, insulation, and electrical for the room will begin. The two windows you see will be walled up (in?), and the area in the middle was where the wall AC unit was. It will become a door so we can access the room from the house. The area to the left of the left-side window opens to the back yard right now; it will be a door also, so we can enter the room from outside with the dogs if we need to.

I can't believe how quickly it is all coming together...at this rate, we will be moving in by the beginning of March! Yikes!
